ABOUT ABOUT

The enchanting vocal trio Moira Smiley & VOCO celebrate the winter holidays in Colorado with A Wintery Gust of Song.  Blending three extraordinary voices with cello, banjo, accordion, ukulele and body percussion, VOCO beautifully combines old American hymns, lush east European harmony and original songwriting with mischievous spirit and warm wit.

Using simple / inventive staging, expansive vocal techniques and mesmerizing instrumentals, VOCO leads us from the crisp air of a starry winter night into the light-filled indoors where we raise our voices together to celebrate our winter stories.

“A Wintery Gust of Song” is a beautiful collection of new and ancient folk songs of winter, stars, evergreens and celebrations that light our hearts in the deep midwinter.

"I'm blown away each time I put VOCO's disc in the player - they push the envelope of vocal music every which way - go there and be amazed." - Kennebec Journal

"The audience is transfixed by the sheer rhythmic joy. Brilliant dissonances, playfulness and spontaneity pervade their performance." - Dirty Linen

"Moira Smiley & VOCO harness high-voltage harmonies with Smiley's signature vocal arrangements. Not afraid to mix Bartók with street-singing - EXPECT GOOSEBUMPS." - Seven Days

Also joining VOCO in opening this special evening are Blayne & Deborah Chastain - husband/wife duo that have been leading the music at St. Pat's since her start in 2001.  They'll be sharing some of their favorite Advent & Christmas carols with bandmates Gabe Ruschival (drums & former bassist with Jars of Clay), Libby Lefebre (piano/vocals) & Neil Gamblin (bass).

In addition to his work with St. Pat's and hymnwriting (see "Live at St. Pat's" on Spotify), Blayne is also known internationally for his Irish whistle, flute and drum (bodhrán) playing and teaching.  His recent album "Fiddle & Flute" (also on Spotify) with fiddler Natalie Padilla and pianist Peter Romero was called by LiveIreland.com "a great album from really tasty musicians!"

All in all, an evening not to be missed in St. Pat's acoustically brilliant sanctuary.  Come join us on this special evening for A Wintery Gust of Song!
